Concerns about climate change-related threats and the limited resilience and sustainability of our human and natural systems led to the formation of the ‘Climate Café.’ This site is devoted to effective communication and to public education on a subject of great relevance to national and international health, security, and economic well-being. We aim to discuss the myriad challenges from global climate change and opportunities for a bright and rewarding clean-energy and resilient future.
This site – the product of a multi-disciplinary group of climate scientists, economists, and educators – is driven by our commitment to improving public understanding of these issues. Most of us, but not all, are now retired from decades-long professional careers in science, economics, education, and journalism. We are listed in the “About” section of our main Substack page: https://climatecafe.substack.com.
The site you are visiting is a “work-in-progress,” a first step in a longer process. The ‘Climate Café’ inevitably will change with each new post, and as its audience increases in number and in substantive involvement with our common objectives.
The pieces posted here reflect the first-hand work-a-day experiences of professionals who have tilled these fields for decades. We hope the site expands well beyond its initial founders, and begins including posts from professionals with complementary expertise and concerns over climate-related risks, resilience, and sustainability.
Many may remember hearing entreaties to “Do something!” Do something, that is, rather than simply observe, document, analyze, and worry. This is our effort to “Do something,” and we look forward to engaging and inspiring others.
